Uganda Police Force has reported major successes in tackling violent crimes across the country, announcing breakthroughs in high-profile murder investigations and armed robbery operations.
In a press release issued on February 18, 2026, the Force highlighted the arrests of key suspects and the development of strong investigative leads in several unresolved cases.
“We have made significant breakthroughs in several high-profile murder cases from recent years, following the arrest of key suspects and the development of strong investigative leads,” the Uganda Police stated.
These cases include the murder of a socialite in Kyanja, the killing of a director at Uganda Christian University (UCU), and the murder of two individuals at a hotel in Lungujja.
The Force further emphasized its commitment to public safety amid concerns over rising crime rates in recent months.
“We mind about people's concerns because we are the custodians of their peace,” the release noted. The Police assured citizens that law enforcement had taken proactive steps to disrupt criminal activities reported through social media and other channels.
Significant progress was also reported in tackling armed robberies. Between January 20-24, 2026, authorities recovered four submachine guns in Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) operations and arrested nine suspects.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the recovered firearms had been used in more than twelve separate crimes. Following these operations, the Force reports that armed robberies in the capital have significantly decreased.
The Uganda Police also carried out extensive operations to target muggers, burglars, and narcotics consumers.
From February 3, 2026, to the present, over 440 suspects were apprehended, screened, and the majority referred to court.
These actions were described as part of disruptive operations in the Kampala Metropolitan Policing Area, reflecting a coordinated effort to restore public confidence in security.
The police reaffirmed the importance of citizen cooperation in sustaining these gains. “Our appeal is for the people to stay calm and maintain contact with the police. Have our contacts, both the hotlines at our command centers and the telephone contacts at the various police stations in your neighborhoods,” the statement read.
Multiple hotlines were shared for public reporting of emergencies, traffic incidents, and crimes, including numbers for the National Emergency Centre, CID, and Fire, Police & Rescue Services.
Authorities stressed that continued public engagement is key to maintaining momentum in investigations and law enforcement operations.
The Force urged Ugandans to report suspicious activity promptly and maintain communication with their local police stations.
In addition to the high-profile murder investigations, the Uganda Police also noted progress in other criminal cases, including aggravated robberies and narcotics-related offenses. These measures aim to reduce crime rates and enhance public safety nationwide.
